Performance Audit of the Ground Water Quality Monitoring Program Administered by the Department of Environmental Protection , Report No. 94-32, February 1995

  • The usefulness of ground water data could be improved by updating the analysis of data collected since the first round of samples taken from 1984 to 1988. A summary report on ground water quality could provide this analysis and also could make the interpretation of monitoring results more accessible to nontechnical users, such as legislators and land use planners who do not have the technical skills to access the data base directly and analyze sample results.
  • The Department has implemented a comprehensive quality assurance process for the Generalized Well Information System to ensure data accuracy and reliability. However, Program staff have not met all the quality assurance requirements for conducting external systems audits. Program staff have also not enforced the quarterly reporting requirements for sampling agencies. These activities are part of the quality assurance process to ensure that the procedures designed to protect data quality are maintained.
