Performance Audit of the Division of Animal Industry as Administered by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services , Report No. 12185, November 1993

  • The Division could reduce its need for general revenue funding by up to approximately $1.8 million annually if it increased fees for Program services to the levels charged by other states, discontinued its contracts with private veterinarians for livestock market testing services and transferred some program functions to private enterprise or industry organizations.
  • The Division generally appears to be meeting its frequency goals for conducting animal disease control inspections. However, the Division's ability to manage its workload and enforce program standards is reduced by limitations in its management information systems.
