Fiscal Impact Update: Recent OPPAGA Reports Propose $132.3 Million in State Agency Impact, Report No. 03-32, May 2003

  • Since the publication of its most recent Fiscal Impact Report, which listed recommendations made through October 2002, OPPAGA has proposed recommendations that would result in an additional $132.3 million in fiscal impact for state agencies.  The Legislature could consider these actions in its upcoming budget special session.
  • Since its inception in July 1994, OPPAGA has made recommendations having a potential annual impact for state agencies of $1.5 billion. 1/   To date, the estimated annual fiscal impact of all recommendations that have been implemented by the Legislature and state agencies totals $443 million. OPPAGA recommendations for state agencies that have not yet been implemented have a potential to save taxpayers an additional $1.1 billion.  An additional $2.1 billion in savings could be implemented by school districts.  Achieving these savings could require changes to state law or local policies, and some may require implementation time before full savings can be realized.
