2001 Fiscal Impact Recap

  • Since its inception in July 1994, OPPAGA has made recommendations having a potential fiscal impact of $2.5 billion.  The estimated fiscal impact of all recommendations implemented by the Legislature, state agencies, and school districts totals $302 million. OPPAGA recommendations not yet implemented at the state or school district level have the potential fiscal impact of $2.2 billion.  Of these potential funds, $1.9 billion would come from school districts over a five-year period.  The remaining $276 million would come from state agencies in annual or one-time savings.
  • Not all of the potential impact is available for immediate legislative appropriation because changes to state law or local policies may be required.  Any amounts presented in this report that differ from amounts in original reports are due to updated calculations.
  • In the last year, legislative and state agency actions implementing OPPAGA recommendations resulted in an estimated fiscal impact of $270 million.
